At this point in the 21st century I just have to assume that the majority of you readers know who Curious George is. If you’re a parent you may know George quite well by now and if you’re not a parent you probably encountered the silly monkey and his yellow-hat friend at some point in your childhood. One of the first shows that my son became obsessed with at a young age is Max & Ruby. The animated series follows a brother-sister duo as they problem-solve their way through common, everyday obstacles without much interference at all from grown-ups. In fact, my son often asked me why we never saw Max and Ruby’s parents; he asked so many times that I actually Googled it. Turns out that Rosemary Wells, the author of the popular book series upon which the show is based, has deliberately omitted much adult presence: “The television series gives kids a sense about how these two siblings resolve their conflicts in a humorous and entertaining way.” Released late last year, Max & Ruby Science Educational Games is a physical science app that carries on the spirit of independent problem-solving while teaching preschoolers and kindergartners important science skills. If you were to ask my kids about food groups they’d probably look at you like you just landed from Mars. A square meal to them means 7 chicken nuggets and a handful of Lucky Charms cereal – but just the marshmallows. Needless to say I’ve been fighting with them both since the day they put down the bottle and picked up the fork. iLearn With Poko: Emotions, Feelings and Colors App Review – Time To Get Emotional

“Use your words!” How many times have you said that to your red-faced, tantrum-throwing, screaming-their-head-off-in-the-lamp-aisle-at-Target kids? But in most cases they really can’t use their words because they haven’t quite learned them yet. The toddlers and preschoolers have a hard time identifying that they are mad because Little Sister ate the last cookie, or that they are pretty excited that Mom stashed another pack of cookies in the back of the pantry.
