There has been a sweeping movement in schools across the country to introduce computer programming courses as part of the regular curriculum. Tech-centric group Code.org is one of the driving forces behind this introduction, stating on their website that nearly 20,000 educators in grades kindergarten through high school have implemented coding instruction in their classsrooms. Besides giving children an advantage in the world of rapidly developing technology, learning programming language (coding) can give kiddos a true insight into the tech that they use every day. It’s almost like teaching them a foreign language – like Spanish or French – and targets kids during their formative language-learning years, when their brains are more easily receptive to new concepts. ‘Hopscotch’ Teaches Simple Programming Basics in an Engaging Way

STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) has been becoming more and more of a priority in the U.S., recently. The White House is even jumping in and voicing its support for STEM education! Even so, some children just don’t take kindly to STEM subjects and even have learning problems in this department (Remember 7th grade algebra?). In an effort to make math and science easier and more fun for kids, one app developer is creating a kid friendly way to learn one common programming language! In an effort to teach children the basics of the programing language ‘Scratch’, the iPad-only app called ‘Hopscotch’ is aimed mostly at 8 year old girls and older.
