Thanksgiving is a day for family, food, and football. It’s also a day to give thanks for all of the blessings in our lives. If you’re a geek, like we are, then one of those blessings is the invention of the iPad.

Another thing to be grateful for are fun apps for our kids to play with while we are busy cooking, cleaning, or traveling.

Here are 6 Thanksgiving apps that we found:

The Berenstain Bears Give Thanks

Join this famous bear family as they act out the first Thanksgiving. Complete with costumes, props and a feast, this app is sure to get any child into the Thanksgiving spirit. The Berenstain Bears teach the lesson of thankfulness and the importance of family during this time of the year. Recommended for kids ages 3-7, they can read the story by themselves, have it read to them, or have it auto-played. The words are highlighted as they’re read, so children can follow along. Parents are able to record their own voice reading this beautifully illustrated story. $3.99.

Tom the Talking Thanksgiving Turkey

Not to be confused with the Talking Tom cat, this Tom is a turkey. But the premise is the same – talk to him and he will repeat everything you say. To get Tom the turkey to dance, simply play music. You can even hit him with a hammer for some evil laughs. Tom will participate in a ‘Gobble Gobble’ eating competition, but that requires an in-app purchase. Free.

Thanksgiving Matching Game

Reinforce your child’s memory with this Thanksgiving version of the popular game. Thanksgiving themed pictures are used and the player is given 3-5 minutes to complete the game. This app is ideal for children with short attention spans. Free.

Kids Fingerpainting Thanksgiving HD

Unleash your child’s creativity with this fingerpainting app. They can draw their own pictures or color any of the 10 coloring pages. There are 10 preset colors and a customizable color pallet. Chose from one of the multiple brush sets and then save your Picasso’s creation to the device’s photo gallery. The app even features the ability to frame and autograph your child’s masterpiece. Free.

Hand Turkey

Who hasn’t held their hand to a piece of paper and traced their fingers to create a turkey? Well it’s 2012 and now your child can put their hand on an iPad and make a turkey. They can even virtually decorate their turkey with the apps stars, hats, and clothing. Share your child’s high-tech turkey on Facebook and Twitter. Free.

Cookie Dozer

This is the Thanksgiving version of the popular game. This time you will push the Thanksgiving cookies and treats “into your hands by dropping some from your jar and into the machine”. Collect turkeys, pies and more for bonus points. There are over 30 cookies and treats, and 32 prizes to win. The app features great 3D graphics and fun special effects. Free.
