I enforce very few rules in our house — be nice, be safe, and keep the Memory cards in neat rows. Sounds pretty straightforward and simple, am I right? Alas, when my 3 and 5-year-0ld girls ask me to play Memory with them, we start out like this: and look like this about 2 minutes later: Nooooo! Memory simply cannot be played in such disarray! Apparently, though, while the minds of my girls are sharp enough to remember where the matching pairs are no matter how the cards are positioned, keeping the cards in an organized grid so ol’ Ma can stand a chance at finding a match is beyond their abilities. There’s something about having kids around that just sucks the brain power right out of a sharp-minded, well-spoken adult. I usually have a mind like a steel trap – remembering details about my childhood or events that happened long ago.
