By now I’m sure you’ve read about Dr. Dre’s highly lucrative (and that’s putting it mildly) deal with Apple and how the sale could potentially make Dre hip-hop’s first billionaire.  And it all started with one guy’s love of making music.

If you have a kiddo that shows interest in making music, here are some apps that will inspire their creativity:

toca band featuredToca Band –  If anyone could make the art of kids’ music production cool and kitschy, it’s the folks at Toca Boca.  A wild cast of 16 characters make different rhythmic sounds on endless loops, and tempos vary depending which tier the character is on. $2.99

babar and badouBabar & Badou’s Musical Marching Band –  Babar & Badou’s Musical Marching Band is brimming with content (educational and otherwise).  It’s highly replayable and full of skill-building activities – it’ll have little ones shouting “TUSKTASTIC!” $1.99

peg + cat big gig featuredPeg + Cat Big Gig – Based on the PBS KIDS television show that premiered this fall, the app helps to teach both music and math early learning skills to the 3-5 crowd.  The adorable cast of characters are recognizable to young players and fun mini-games multi-task as educational tools. $1.99

Little-Fox-Music-Box-LogoLittle Fox Music Box“A sing-along songbook with more than 100 interactive elements in 3 songs and the little fox music studio where you can record your own songs! Brought to you by the team that created the bestselling App “Nighty Night”! Great for kids between 2 and 6 years old.” $2.99

cookie beats featuredCookie Beats – If my childhood piano lessons were this fun I’d be a regular Liberace by now.  Cookie Beats is a great app that teaches important musical fundamentals while being relatable and fun.  It’s only $1.99 to download but in my opinion offers more than its $2 worth.
