The Grateful Crane App Review – Japanese Folklore Made Modern

Before there were iPads or computers, before DVDs and even VHS tapes, there was the Japanese art of storytelling called kamishibai – which translates into “paper drama”. The art originated among 12th century monks but didn’t become popular until the early- to mid-20th century. Storytellers would travel the city by bike, telling stories from wooden theaters attached to the back of the bike., with each scene of the story was illustrated on wooden panels. The Grateful Crane draws inspiration from both kamishibai and ancient Japanese folklore. As the story goes, a young woodcutter – Yoshi- saves a crane with her leg entangled in a trap. Mysteriously a young woman – Tsuru – shows up at his door and he extends his hospitality to be rewarded in kind. Slowly the pair settle into a comfortable life together. Popular Japanese Messaging App ‘Line’ Adds Kids App to its Repertoire

As the top messaging app in Japan, ‘Line‘ reaches approximately one third of the population. With the addition of a new children’s app, Line’s reach is about to get even bigger. Marketed toward kids age six and younger, the recently released Line Kids app is currently available only in Japan. The developers of Line and Line Kids say that they do not have any plans to release the new app outside of the country, however, the size and scale of Line and its components make it a potential key player in the messaging industry around the world. Line messenger is very popular in other parts of the world (its actually the most downloaded app in over 40 countries) and it is very possible that developers would take advantage of the same opportunity with Line Kids in the future.
