When I was a kid (yes, it’s one of those posts again) I learned how to play piano the hard way. Week after week on Thursday afternoons I would sit straight-backed and faked my way through some of the easiest music pieces in existence. I never practiced and recitals terrified me, and after 2-ish years of complaining I finally gave up my dreams of being a keyboard-pounding virtuoso. If I was a kid today there’s no doubt I would be rocking Lincoln Center with the help of the Piano Dust Buster song. (I would surely need my income to pay for the app – more about that later…) Broom-toting Grandma swipes her way through dust as the “particles” show the music notes to play on the games keyboards. Silly Piano! App Review – Make Some Merry Music

Whoever said a love of music starts in childhood obviously had never heard a 2-year-old play a cat-shaped piano, with loud “meeeoow” sounds replacing the melodic plunks and plinks of a piano. And for reference, in this case more (keys pressed at once) is NOT better. I can never look at a cat the same way since my daughter received the kitty-keyboard as a very thoughtful birthday gift from none other than Grandma. Incidentally it’s from the very same Grandma that’s always grumbling under her breath about karma. The Silly Piano! app is much more advanced than my feline friend, but the idea is the same – to teach kids the fundamentals of music in a fun and engaging way.
